March 2008 Report

Hello everyone,

Here is the report for March and the the obvious question in my mind is whether we should officially drop Kauvaughn Cunningham form the program, since all attempts to contact him and his guardians have proven futile. The last time he came to school was two months ago for one day. The rest of the students continue to do well especially the girls who make a special effort at extra curricular activities and contribute to the school and Jamaica in positive ways. The five girls in the second attachment TAMARA, lOIAN, SALCIA, AMOYA and LOVAN, contributed nearly 60 points combined to the victory of the girls champs team and Deneen Taylor is on the Jamaica Under 16 netball team which just won the Caribbean Championships, she was among the top scorers in all of the matches. WELCOME TO THE WEBSITE OF HOLMWOOD CLASS OF 1974

There has always been a close relationship, camaraderie and bond, among the students of the Class of 1974. Even over 30 years after graduating from this noble institution - Holmwood Technical High School, the friendships continue to be strong and have grown stronger in many instances, so much so that many of us meet for birthday parties, at our children's christening, graduation and reunions.

It is out of this need for continuous communication and a lasting friendship that the formation of Holmwood Class of 1974 was born. When some members of the class met at HOLMcoming 2004, they knew they could not wait for four (4) long years to meet again. It had to be sooner. So with hearts and minds all united we planned for a 2006 reunion and a 50th birthday celebration to highlight the occasion, since many of us would celebrate our 50th birthday that year. Holmwood Class of 1974 knew the importance of having friends for a life time as Michael W. Smith aptly puts it “Friends are friends forever, until the end of time….”

For many members of this class, their high school friends still remain their best friends today, whilst others have extended the group to include fellow classmates. This is one of the unique traits of the Class of 1974, a trait that symbolizes pride and loyalty. Because of this bond among us, we often outnumber other classes when “Holmwoodites” meet at functions for Holmwood past students.

OBJECTIVES OF THE CLASS OF 1974

As a means of enhancing the group friendship and in keeping the kindred spirit alive, Holmwood Class of 1974 has purported the following as its objectives:
  1. To rekindle good relationships among ourselves, hence the need to meet biennially for a reunion with our families and friends.
  2. To provide a medium through which we can communicate, help each other as well as celebrate our growth and successes. Thus enabling us “to stay together.”
  3. To help needy students by fostering a lunch program that provides them with nutritious meals while they are in school, in addition to other projects from time to time.
  4. To give general support to the Holmwood school population both past and present- through a close association with the various chapters of the Holmwood Past Student Association (HPSA), the principal, staff and present student body.
